Fujimi's 1/72nd scale
Vought Cutlass
Trevor McTavish

I've always liked the look of the Vought Cutlass fighter, but never really tried to build a model of one. Then one day, while browsing through the stacks of kits at my local hobby shop, I spotted two releases by Fujimi. One was a photo-recon version, while the other was a straight fighter version. I quickly purchased my new find, and rushed off home to examine my new treasure.

When I got home, I was quite pleased to find finely engraved panel lines, a nice tight fit between all parts, and enough detail to keep me happy. During assembly, I only required liquid putty along the joint between the forward and aft fuselage halves. Within four or five hours, my Cutlass was ready for paint.

Since I wasn't in the mood to tackle a natural metal finish, I followed the kit's instructions to paint my example in the white and gull grey scheme. I used a combination of Polly Scale and Model Master 2 acrylic paints and was happy with the results.

The only drawback with this kit is the decals. The white was really a pale yellow (that I didn't notice until dry on the model) and not very opaque.

However, I enjoyed the project and the quick build this model provided and it looks nice on my model shelf.
