Hobbycraft's 1/48th scale
Hawker Hurricane Mk. II
Scott McTavish

I have recently changed my model building habits. I cleaned up my piles of new and partially started kits last week and came to a startling conclusion. Probably many of you have the same story. I have too many kits that have not been touched. Several of these have the boxes stuffed with detail parts and conversion sets. I looked back to the start of the year to see what I have built. It didn't take long. 2 kits. I have spent so much time perfecting my Sabre and Canso that I did not finish anything else. It was time for that to change.

I picked up Hobbycrafts Hurricane and started to build. The kit looks fairly similar to Airfix's product. The exceptions are scribed lines and better plastic. Construction went together very quickly, and only needed a couple spots of putty to fill a small sink mark in front of the windshield. Total construction time including painting the cockpit was less than an hour. The fit was equivalent to and if better than some of the high priced products we've come to worship. After minor sanding the model was sprayed with Polly S Sky, Foliage Green and Dark Earth. I will put the markings of Willy McKnight on my Hurricane. The nose art was drawn up and reduced to size. I am very impressed with the buildup and looks of this kit. It has been a long time since I had a model completed in under a week. This kit would be an excellent project for those that also feel it's time they built straight from the box.
