Hasegawa's 1/48th scale
Messerschmitt Bf109G-6
Peter Gilding
Based on the Bf109, which had performed quite well in the skies over Europe and North Africa the G, or Gustev series, featured a reinforced wing, internal bullet-proof windscreen,
heavier canopy structure and additional armour for the fuel tanks and radiators. G-6s featured a 30mm cannon firing along the fuselage centerline, and a rudder enlarged for
stability.
Bf109Gs were adaptable and good performers, but their main drawback was the poor construction caused by constant Allied bombing, and the sabotage being carried out by enslaved
labourers.
The Model:
Peter started by adding scratchbuilt details to the cockpit, including the main fuel line with sight glass, seat belts, throttle and switches. Model Master and Xtracolor paints were
used, and the model was finished with Aeromaster decals.
