Hasegawa's 1/48th scale
Macchi C.202 Folgore
Peter Gilding
Introduced into service with the Italian Regia Aeronautica in 1941, the Macchi C.202 Folgore (Thunderbolt) was a superb dog fighter. Many feel it was among the more attractive
fighter planes to emerge in WW2, and its asymmetrical wing-planform (one wing is longer than the other) sets it apart from its peers. Unfortunately it was lightly armed and hurried
its replacement during the invasions of Sicily, Sardinia, and Naples.
The Model:
Peter detailed his Hasegawa kit with a scratchbuilt lower engine bay, extra details in the wheel wells, and Ultracast resin exhaust stacks.
The North African camouflage is a mixture of Model Master, White Ensign Models (WEM), and Alclad II paints. The intricate smoke ring camouflage was hand painted using an Aztek 470
airbrush.
