February 15, 2010

The February newsletter is now available.

Since the RMMC is now a chapter of IPMS Canada, some minor changes will be coming in the next few months. We've started with a couple links to the IPMS Canada website.

January 11, 2010

The January newsletter is now available.

November 30, 2009

The December newsletter is now available.

At the November meeting, the RMMC membership voted in favour of joining IPMS Canada. Although there are more steps to be taken, we've taken one giant step towards the return of a Calgary IPMS chapter.

Remember: The December meeting is our Christmas party. Check out the discussion page for a sign up menu - drinks are on the club.

After several months of waiting, I've gotten around to creating a gallery for Bill Miles, a talented anime figure modeler, and (obviously) RMMC member.

October 16, 2009

The November newsletter is now available. It includes the presentation about joining IPMS Canada.

October 2, 2009

The October newsletter is now available.

For those not present at the September club meeting, several important topics were discussed. Among them was a call for RMMC members to become move involved. Mike Grant stepped up and offered his assistance with the newsletter, which past-editor Scott McTavish gratiously accepted. This month's newsletter is Mike's first, and I've got to say, it looks terrific - many of us pay good money for magazines that look this flashy. I hope everyone continues to support Mike with article submissions and photographs.

Also, remember that a fifth executive position has been created. Nominations were taken at the September meeting and you can throw your name into the ring up to the time of the vote, which will be during the business portion of the regularily scheduled October meeting.

September 19, 2009

The September newsletter is now available.

And don't forget, the RMMC has agreed to put on a model show for the students and staff at Mount Royal University (formerly Mount Royal College). The topic will be "Modelling Conflicts of the 20th Century". See the poster below for details.

Apparently the host for our discussion page has been sold to another company, who naturally decided to change one word in the discussion page's address. So I've just spent my evening replacing the old address on approximately 200 pages. Yup - each and every article had to be tweaked.

Some people have commented that our website appears stagnant, even wondering if the RMMC is still active. I'd like ot remind the membership that this website is the direct result of whatever you provide. Notice that there hasn't been a newsletter lately either? They go hand and hand, because the articles that go into the newsletter, usually find their way onto the website ASAP. I know that everyone has been working on a model, or two, or three this past year. Take a couple minutes and jot down a couple paragraphs about what you did. Did you encounter some problems? What interesting aftermarket products did you use? Remember, there's even an article on this site giving hints.

Congratulations to Gavin Rees for returning to the post of club President this year. For those not familiar with Gavin's work, he's one of those modelers who tries to dabble in everything; aircraft, ships, sci-fi and figures. And lets not forget to say a big thank you to Colin Phillips for serving as President this last year.

Tom Calbury, Mike Grant and Massimo Santarossa have some additions to their galleries.

Finally, for those who weren't included on the email list, the RMMC has been invited to put on a model display at the next open house for the Nanton Lancaster Museum. That's this Saturday, August 15. Doors open at 9:00am, and since we left all our tables down there after the contest, there's plenty of room for everyone to bring as many models as you'd like.

January 20, 2009

The January newsletter is now available.

Massimo Santarossa has another model added to his gallery.

Trevor McTavish has also supplied two articles: Weathering with pencils and Weathering with pastel washes. You'll find them in a reorganized articles page. Miscellaneous has been split into Miscellaneous, and Tips and Techniques.

There's a new calendar available for club events. This one looks, oddly enough, just like a real calendar. Search for upcoming events, or submit your own events to the webguy.

And for the fifth year in a row, the WCRMC has been featured in Fine Scale Modeler's Great Scale Models. Congratulations to RMMC members Michael Tanguay and Jon Baniak for getting their models in print.

November 9, 2008

The November newsletter is now avialable. This issue marks the 50th electronic newsletter.

Massimo Santarossa has a new addition in his gallery. Look for an indepth article on his Embraer airliner in a future issue of SAM magazine.

Finally, don't forget the December meeting will include our annual pot-luck Christmas party. Bring along some food, your appetite, and a donation to the food bank.

October 24, 2008

The October newsletter is now available. There are articles on several model contests and RMMC club activities over the summer.

Its been a while since it was submitted, but Massimo Santarossa's article about glossy paint finishes has been added to the articles page.

A photo of Michael Tanguay's award winning German field gun has finally been added to his gallery.

The links to the RMMC's RCAF/CAF 80th anniversary group build have been repaired.

For those members who attended the Northern Wings Model Contest in Edmonton last weekend, they have posted the results and some photographs on their website.

With the contest over it might be easy to drop back into the summer building slump. Don't forget there are a whole bunch of other contests in Calgary, Alberta and several of our neighbouring provinces. Keep building. Also, don't forget that we're already looking for sponsors for the 2009 WCR. Start thinking of companies, or individuals you'd like to approach in the coming months.

I just discovered that I'd referenced a non-existant link to a map to the community centre on the main page. It was fortuitous, as we voted at the May meeting to move the regular meetings to SAIT's Art Smith Aero Centre, 1916 McCall Landing NE. The address has been changed, and a map can now be seen.

We have a date for the contest in Victoria, BC. It'll be September 13, and you can find more information on it, and other contests on the "Club Events" page.

Mike Grant, Trevor McTavish, Colin Phillips and Massimo Santarossa have new gallery entries. Remember that the galleries and articles are now connected. If there's an article for a specific model, when you click on its picture in the gallery, you'll be taken to its article.

New articles have been added for Airfix's 1/72nd scale de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk, Fujimi's 1/72nd scale F-4J (UK) Phantom II, Sword's 1/72nd scale Grumman G-21 Goose, Williams Brother's 1/72nd scale Boeing 247D, Academy's 1/48th scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIVe, Airfix's 1/48th scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI, Czech Models' 1/48th scale Beechcraft T-34C Turbo Mentor, Hasegawa's 1/48th scale Hawker Hurricane Mk.I, Hobbycraft's 1/48th scale Canadair CT-114 Tutor, Hobbycraft's 1/32nd scale Hawker Sea Fury, Tamiya's 1/48th scale Sherman Firefly Ic, Italeri's 1/35th scale ELCO PT boat and Hasegawa's Egg-plane F-18 Hornets.

Also with the articles is a new section, entitled "RMMC Public Shows." This is for events that the RMMC partiipates in, like museum open houses, or media events. To start things off, we have Modelling the Second World War, which was held at Mount Royal College back at the end of March.

January 8, 2008

Oops. I guess I messed up with yesterday's update. RMMC members Michael Tanguay, Colin Phillips, Mike Grant and Miro Nedeljak don't have models in the 2008 GSM magazine, but in this month's Military Modelcraft International - part of the Scale Aircraft Modelling magazine group. Congratulations guys. We'll let everyone know who made it into GSM as soon as we find out.

Contest Announcements:
The date has been announced for the Northern Wings Plastic Model Aircraft Contest. It'll be October 18 in Edmonton.

January 7, 2008

Happy New Year everyone! On behalf of everyone at the RMMC, all the best this year and may it be a safe, happy, and productive one in your workshop.

Over the holidays the website was down. We received lots of emails about this. What happened was that we tried moving our domain name to a less expensive host, but only discovered that we couldn't after the name expired. Its fixed for now, but we'll be looking to find a new host in the near future. If the site goes down again, don't worry we're still here.

Speaking of issues with the RMMC website. Most of you have already noticed that the Discussion Group's host has changed their name, so you have to click a link to transfer to the new location. I'll be making some updates over the next month and will correct this as time permits. Until then, please keep clicking the host's link.

There have been models added to the Model Galleries of Sean Campbell, Mike Grant, Paul Holmes, Scott McTavish, Trevor McTavish and Massimo Santarossa.

For the 4th year in a row, the Western Canadian Regional Model Contest has been featured in FineScale Modeler magazine's Great Scale Modeling. Congratulations to RMMC members Michael Tanguay, Colin Phillips, Mike Grant and Miro Nedeljak for having their models included. Way to go, and again, way to go to all the RMMC members who helped make the 2007 a complete success.

The Club Events page has been updated with the meeting dates for 2008, and each of their themes. If you're hosting a model contest or show, please make sure to send us an email with your date and information and we'll spread the word through our club and website.

Contest Announcements:
The Western Canadian Regional Model Contest will be held on May 17. That's during the May long weekend. The Alberta AFV Modeller Show will be held on September 13. Both shows are in Calgary. Mark your calanders now so you don't forget.

November 10, 2007

The November newsletter has been posted.

As always, the RMMC will be observing a moment of silence during the meeting - wear your poppy.
